As we grow older, our eyes need more attention, for they become more susceptible to problems. Among other things, we become prone to developing diseases such as glaucoma (high eye pressure), cataracts (lens clouding), as well as associated systemic conditions such as diabetes & hypertension - both of which can also affect vision. In fact, diabetic retinopathy & glaucoma are the leading causes of blindness in Singapore.
The Adult Ocular exam will cover 4 main areas:
- Ocular Health - to examine the health of the front & back of the eyes. Useful for detecting eye diseases such as glaucoma and cataract.
- Sensory & Oculo-Motor Status - assess status of the eye muscle focus and coordination. Color vision is also tested.
- Refractive Status - determines the degree of the eyes and whether reading glasses are required.
- Visual Fields Testing + Retinal Photography - Helps in the diagnosis and documentation of eye diseases.
Once the exam is completed, clinical findings and suggested management will be discussed with you by our Optometrists. You will also receive a record of the examination which will hold the clinical findings, including your spectacle prescription, eye-pressure readings, visual field results and retinal photographs.
It is recommended that the Adult Ocular exam be performed annually to ensure continuity of good eye health and vision.
